Pastoral Information

Effective pastoral care underpins school life and there is always someone to whom the students can turn for help and advice.
At Read Academy, our Pastoral Support Team is committed to supporting students’ well-being by ensuring every individual feels heard and valued. We take a restorative approach to resolving conflicts, using de-escalation techniques to create a calm and supportive environment.

We also have a 'Feedback Count' System in place ensuring every single child's feedback is taken into account.

Our services also include internal and external mentoring, providing students with guidance and positive role models to help them navigate challenges. Through this holistic support, we aim to foster resilience, confidence, and success for every student in our school community.
Below are some of the interventions that we offer to children to help improve their mental health.

ELSA Groups - a small group for children who may feel insecure in school or require some help with social skills.
Mindfulness - children learn techniques to help us with our mental health.
Child bereavement support
Social Stories - for children who struggle with self-awareness and understanding of social expectations.
Zones of Regulation - to manage self-regulation skills to control behaviours.
We have trained up our senior students who can offer peer support for students that may be affected by low-level wellbeing concerns, such as friendship issues or school stress. Peer Buddies are trained and closely supervised by the senior management team.

If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please contact your child’s form teacher in the first instance. They will listen to your concerns and discuss the potential options of support which are available for your child to access in school.
