Learning at EYFS

For children under 5, we aim to build essential foundations for learning, development and social interaction with interactions and the school environment framed around Islamic values, manners and habits. Academic activities are based on the updated Early Learning Goals (ELGs) of the EYFS framework set by the Department for Education.

The areas of learning are:
  • communication and language
  • physical development
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • understanding the world
  • expressive arts and design

Our young learners also have Arabic and Islamic lessons incorporated into their school timetable. Children are introduced to Read Academy’s learner attributes of excellence and are nurtured to build their self-confidence, collaboration and inquiry skills through themed and project-based learning. There’s a whole lot of hands-on fun, learning in and around the school as well as visits to the forest garden and effective use of the digital online journal, Tapestry – which allows for a seamless blend of home and school learning.

Students are engaged through play, discussion, activity-based learning and are given the opportunity to make friends, learn about the world around them and develop their curiosity. Teachers deliver well-planned learning and facilitate social and learning conversations to develop communication skills and student confidence. There is a healthy balance of structure, group learning, discovery, learning across a range of disciplines, a focus on development and of course – lots of fun!
